Egypt Extends Participation in Anti-Houthi Operation in Yemen for 3 Months
MOSCOW (Sputnik), Svetlana Alexandrova Last month, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry told Sky News channel that Egypt was ready to send its troops to Yemen if necessary.

"No, I don’t see it coming immediately unless the need arises," Elbadri said when asked whether Cairo would participate in a ground operation.

"For Yemeni crisis, Egypt's participation is not with the intention of eliminating a party of the conflict. We believe, at the end all these are Yemeni people and they are going have to live together.

The Egyptian diplomat added that he believed the conflicting parties would eventually end up at a negotiating table.

The Houthi rebels have overtaken large parts of Yemen, as well as the capital Sanaa, forcing President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi to flee and dissolving the parliament causing the Saudi led coalition.

In late March, the Saudi-led coalition launched an aerial campaign against the rebels’ positions in Yemen, at Hadi’s request. Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Sisi ordered to send a contingent of the country's navy and air force to participate in the Saudi-led Decisive Storm military operation on March 26, the same day that the start of the air campaign was announced.

In late April, the coalition announced it would end its military operation in the country, but the airstrikes have continued. On the ground, Houthis have been opposed by forces loyal to Hadi.
