MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The West supports ISIL militant group to create problems for Russia and China in Central Asia, head of the Russian parliamentary delegation to Syria Dmitry Sablin told Sputnik Turkey on Tuesday.
"The realization that the ISIL is supported by the Western countries comes gradually… Currently, they are aiming at directing the ISIL to the region of Central Asia to create problems for Russia and China," Sablin said.
The lawmaker, however, said that the plan's future is highly unpredictable, as the ISIL may turn against the West. He noted that many ISIL foreign recruits are Europeans.
The ISIL controls large areas across Iraq and Syria. In March, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said the number of Europeans fighting alongside ISIL militants in Iraq and Syria could reach 10,000 people by the end of 2015.
