WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Secretary of State John Kerry should be up and walking on Wednesday following his leg surgery the day before, Kerry's orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dennis Burke said in a statement.
"The procedure was uncomplicated, the fracture was fully repaired, and we plan to get him up walking on Wednesday," Burke stated on Tuesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Kerry underwent a surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston to repair his broken femur following a bicycling accident in Europe.
"I anticipate a short hospitalization, a full and complete recovery and a return to normal function," the surgeon said. "I do not anticipate that this will interfere with his duties as Secretary of State."
Kerry broke his right hip near the French town of Scionzier on Sunday. He was flown to hospital in Geneva, Switzerland, where he stayed overnight for further monitoring.
The injury forced Kerry to cancel his visits to Madrid and Paris due to the sustained injury.
The US Department of State said earlier on Tuesday that Kerry participated via telephone in the counter-Islamic State meeting in Paris before the surgery.
