"The president of the international football federation should be Diego Armando Maradona or someone like him," said Maduro during his weekly televised address.
Maduro criticized US authorities for operating beyond their jurisdictions, and suggested the investigation was part of Washington’s plot to scrap World Cup tournaments in Russia and Qatar.
Maradona, for his part, said he was "enjoying" the news of the arrest of the senior FIFA officials, including two vice-presidents, in a dawn raid at a luxury hotel in Zurich.
They face deportation to the United States on charges of accepting over $150 million in bribes, and the outspoken former star said Blatter could follow in their footsteps.
Diego Maradona has been openly critical of Blatter and in the last elections voiced support for Blatter's rival, Jordanian Prince Ali Bin al-Hussein.
