“Two mobile companies of the 38th Guards Special Operations Brigade will be deployed in Brest and Gomel to subsequently join the border guard forces to protect this country’s southern frontiers,” the Defense Ministry’s press service said Wednesday.
“A territorial defense headquarters is being set up in Gomel region and an infantry company of the territorial forces is being formed in Yelsk, to be augmented by a call up of local reservists,” the statement added.
A command post exercise will be held within the next few days to practice combat interoperability between the regional territorial defense bodies and forces,” the press service explained.
The territorial defense forces ensure the protection of vital facilities, combat enemy air commando groups and illegal armed units, and reinforce state borders.
