The eastern Ukrainian self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic believes shelling near the village of Marinka to be a provocation by Kiev forces that could instigate a war, DPR Defense Minister Vladimir Kononov said Wednesday.

DONETSK (Sputnik) – According to the DPR official, Ukrainian forces began shelling along the entire contact line early Wednesday morning, killing at least three DPR military personnel.

“This provocation is to blame us in attempts of approaching Marinka, which is already our territory…these types of provocations can lead to war…this is a breach in the Minsk agreements,” Kononov said.

“At 3:05 a.m. [00:05 GMT] Ukraine began shelling along the entire front and by 4:30 a.m. three [militiamen] were dead,” Kononov said.

Konovov increased the death toll later in the day to at least 15.

“A minimum of 15 people have been killed in the DPR since the beginning of the full-scale shelling by the Ukrainian Security Forces along the entire contact line,” Konovov was cited by the Donetsk News Agency as saying.
