MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The two ministers are set to meet on the sidelines of a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) security conference.
“Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Zarif, will be present tomorrow at the conference I mentioned. We will, of course, exchange views on the state of [nuclear] negotiations,” Lavrov told reporters after a meeting of SCO’s Foreign Ministers' Council.
The minister added that the progress reached on the Iranian nuclear issue is “obvious.”
In April, the P5+1 group of international mediators comprising Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany worked out a framework agreement with Iran on curbing the Islamic Republic’s controversial nuclear energy program.
The negotiators are expected to reach a final comprehensive deal before the July 1 deadline.
