According to Al Mayadeen News, IDF fighter jets could be heard over the Gaza Strip hours after the rockets were fired into the Israeli side of the border. Israel's military has also reported launching airstrikes on Hamas training sites early Thursday morning.
No injuries or casualties have been reported from the airstrikes, as Hamas militants evacuated their posts earlier in anticipation of an Israeli attack.
A group associated with the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for three rockets fired into Israel Wednesday night. Though Hamas views IS as a threat, Israel considers the group to be responsible for any attacks originating from the Gaza Strip.
IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner issued a statement after Wednesday's attacks, promising a retaliation.
"The IDF will act against the aggression, will act against those that wish to terrorize Israel and will act to protect Israelis in the line of indiscriminate Gaza rocket fire."
