WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Amendments have been added to the US defense bill to export energy to NATO allies and other friendly countries, US Senator John Cornyn said in a statement.
“These amendments would strengthen the strategic hand of the United States in a world that grows more complicated by the day, not to mention more dangerous,” Cornyn said on Wednesday upon introducing the amendments.
The amendment would create an exception to allow gas and oil exports to NATO allies and other friendly countries.
They also require the US Energy Department to approve Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) exports to NATO countries and other allies.
