MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said Thursday:
“Today, I said we have a coach that we all support and he’s got a contract and we’ll work. This is a topnotch coach and I have no doubt that this qualified person is capable… We have now given him more serious conditions, which weren’t there before, but will be now. If there’s someone who doesn’t agree, then he can find something else to do.”
Following the qualification, Capello's contract to coach Russia’s national football team has been extended to 2018, when Russia will host the FIFA Word Cup.
However, Russian team's 2014 elimination after the group stage in Brazil without winning a game prompted speculations that the Italian, named the highest paid coach at the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil by Forbes magazine, would be fired.
