WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Serbia is not seeking additional US financial assistance, but looking for US help pursuing EU membership, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic told Sputnik during his visit to Washington on Thursday.
“We are not looking for more money, we are looking for political support in our EU path and we will earn our own money,” Vucic said.
The prime minister added that he also hopes to attract “a bigger presence of American investors” in Serbia.
Vucic noted he will be meeting on Thursday with US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
“We need to learn a lot from the United States, and I am not ashamed to say that,” Vucic said of his meeting with US officials.
Serbia maintains close ties with both Russia and the West, and has declined to join in imposing sanctions on Russia.
In January 2014, Serbia started formal negotiations to join the European Union.
