KIEV (Sputnik) – Poroshenko said that he would allow a referendum on the two eastern Ukrainian republic’s self-government if the country’s Constitution is changed.
“The question of eastern Ukraine seceding is a provocation. As the president and commander-in-chief, and as the guarantor of the Constitution, I am the guarantor of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and will not allow the referendum on Donbass’ secession,” Poroshenko said at a press conference.
“As the guarantor of the Constitution, I will provide for the freewill of the citizens so that all Ukrainians may express how they see the future of Donbass but only within Ukraine.”
