Russia and the United States work together in many areas, particularly on the Iranian nuclear program, combating terrorism and continue dialogue on arms control, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Italian newspaper Il Corriere della Sera on the eve of his visit to Milan's Universal Exhibition Expo 2015.
"We are cooperating not only regarding Iran's nuclear program, but also in other important areas. Despite the fact that Americans withdrew from Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty, yet we have continued to conduct a dialogue concerning arms control."
"We are not just partners, but I would say we are allies with regard to the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. We certainly are allies in the fight against terrorism. There are also other areas of cooperation… There are a lot of issues on which we continue our cooperation," Putin said.
Mutually-beneficial cooperation between Russia and the United States is crucial for the success of international efforts to resolve many global problems, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday noting that Moscow hopes that the presidential candidates in the upcoming US election campaign "would do less [compared with previous elections] to sacrifice our bilateral relations."
