KIEV (Sputnik) — On Wednesday, Donbass witnessed heavy clashes between Kiev and forces of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk near the town of Marinka.
"I once again explained our position that Japan categorically rejects a violent scenario for the developments [in Donbass], while we also respect the supremacy of law, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," said Abe, the first Japanese prime minister ever to pay official visit to Ukraine.
The European Commission described the fighting in Donbass as the biggest ceasefire violation since the Minsk II peace deal had been signed in mid-February.
Poroshenko and Abe signed an agreement on granting a $1.1 billion loan to Ukraine for reconstruction of the Bortnychi aeration station in Kiev, Poroshenko's press service said.
In April 2014, Kiev and Tokyo discussed the details of the cooperation on the Bortnychi station's reconstruction project. The deal concerned the allocation of a loan in the framework of financial aid to Kiev worth 110 billion Japanese yen ($1.1 billion).
