ASTANA (Sputnik) — The lawyers of Kazakh student Azamat Tazhayakov, sentenced for obstructing the investigation into the April 2013 Boston bombing, are readying an appeal, a Kazakh newspaper said Monday quoting the convict's father.
Last week, a US federal judge sentenced Tazhayakov to 3.5 years in a federal prison for collecting a bag with evidence from Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s room and throwing it away. He acted together with another Kazakh student Dias Kadyrbayev, who was sentenced to six years in prison earlier in June.
"Currently, the lawyers are preparing an appeal, not against the sentence but against the charges," the convict’s father said, as quoted by the Ak Zhaik newspaper.
In May, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was sentenced to death for the bombing that killed three people and injured more than 260. The verdict included use of a weapons of mass destruction and bombing a public place.
