GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN (Sputnik) All the leaders of the G7 group, comprising France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Japan, the United States and Canada, would like Greece to remain in the Eurozone, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Monday.

“All those, who sat at the [negotiations] table here, would like Greece to stay in the eurozone,” Merkel told reporters after a meeting with other G7 leaders.

The economic situation in Greece, the country's debt and its financial commitments to international creditors were among the key points on the agenda of the G7 summit held in Bavaria, Germany on June 7-8.

Speculations about Greece’s possible exit (Grexit) from the eurozone intensified in 2015 amid the country’s ongoing financial crisis and doubts on whether the country would be able to settle its debt to the creditors.

Greece's national debt is estimated at about $350 billion, of which $270 billion the country owes to three of its biggest lenders, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Union and the European Central Bank.

Athens is currently involved in talks with the creditors on a debt relief deal before the bailout plan, first agreed by Athens and the European Commission in 2011, expires at the end of June.
