MOSCOW, June 9 (Sputnik) – Russia’s Northern Fleet has completed naval exercises in the Barents Sea that included anti-ship, anti-submarine drills with torpedoes and depth charges, the Russian Defense Ministry’s head of the Northern Fleet’s press service said Tuesday.

Torpedo firings and depth charges were also used in the exercises, he added.

Last week, Russia and Norway staged two-day naval exercises in the Barents Sea, which included at-sea rescue operations and training to clean up oil spills.

In April, the aviation arm of the Northern Fleet also held training exercises over the Barents Sea.

Russia regularly holds drills in the Barents Sea, above the Arctic Circle, as the country looks to boost its presence in the Arctic region.
