WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The US Affordable Care Act (ACA) has performed better than expected by providing health insurance to more than 16 million Americans and driving the uninsured rate to its lowest level, US President Barack Obama said in a speech on Tuesday.
“The [US] Affordable Care Act worked out better than some of us anticipated,” Obama said. “Nearly one and three uninsured Americans have already been covered — more than 16 million people — driving our uninsured rate to its lowest level ever.”
Since the ACA was passed, Obama added, the United States has experienced 63 straight months of job growth, silencing critics who claimed the President’s healthcare legislation would be a “job-killer.”
On March 23, 2010, Obama signed the ACA into law in a bid to make healthcare in the country more affordable.
Republican politicians have continued to criticize the President’s healthcare program, also known as Obamacare, and are working on alternatives to replace it.
