WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The announcement was made in line with US Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work’s pledge of a transparent laboratory review process.
Earlier updates revealed that Australia, South Korea and Canada also received live anthrax bacteria. The list includes 68 laboratories in 19 states and Washington, D.C.
A US Army lab in the state of Utah reportedly shipped the samples for research purposes thinking they were inactive, USA Today said earlier this month.
A total of more than 30 people were put in quarantine and asked to take antibiotics as a precautionary measure after the mistake was recognized.
Anthrax is an often-lethal disease. Some forms of the spores respond well to antibiotic treatment, and effective vaccines exist.
