The United States should be considering actionable responses to alleged Russian violations of the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, US House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry said on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Friday, the US State Department reported that Russia had failed to correct previously identified INF violations. Russian officials have repeatedly asked US officials to be more specific in identifying the alleged INF arms control violations.

“I think it is time to look at other options that are real, concrete and proportional to Russia intentionally violating this treaty.”

Thornberry noted the United States has to “be serious” in addressing the alleged violations.

“We sent them nasty notes, and talk bad about them. It is time to do something more than that, because obviously that has not worked.”

The INF Treaty, signed between the United States and the Soviet Union in 1987, bans nuclear and conventional ground-based cruise and ballistic missiles with ranges of between 500 and 5,500 kilometers (310-3,400 miles).
