ROME (Sputnik) — Salvini said he bought the t-shirt during one of his trips to Russia. The 42-year-old has been critical of Italy’s decision to join EU sanctions against Russia following the split between Moscow and Brussels. In response to the economic restrictions, Moscow slapped an embargo on EU food imports to Russia.
“This is my response to euro-idiots who are playing at going to war against Putin and Russia. You have to be an idiot to play at going to war against Russia.”
Earlier in the day, Matteo Salvini, whose personal rating in Italy is second only to that of Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, said his party would remove sanctions in the northern Italian regions of Veneto, Lombardy and Liguria unilaterally, if it had the authority. Lega Nord has had a strong showing in the three regional elections over several years, including in the most recent May vote.
