MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Under a 2011 deal, Interpol received the funds from FIFA to launch a 10-year Integrity in Sport program aimed at preventing the manipulation of sports events and illegal gambling. The Interpol-FIFA agreement stipulated that the latter’s activities must be consistent with Interpol’s principles.
"In light of the current context surrounding FIFA, while INTERPOL is still committed to developing our Integrity in Sport programme, I have decided to suspend the agreement," Secretary General of Interpol Juergen Stock said, as quoted in a statement.
In late May, several high-ranking FIFA officials were arrested on a US federal corruption warrant.
