MOSCOW, (Sputnik) — Two Canadians, a Dutchman and a Briton were convicted of causing a June 5 earthquake of 5.9 in magnitude by dishonoring the mountain where the Malaya ancestral spirits are believed to live, according to the BBC. The earthquake claimed five lives.
The group was also sentenced to a fine of approximately $1,300, which each of the perpetrators must pay before being deported, the news outlet said.
The court back-dated the jail sentence to Tuesday, to reflect the term they have already been detained while awaiting trial. The group will be released on Friday, as they have shown remorse.
