MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The attack took place in the village of Hayakil near Fallujah, situated less than 50 miles from capital Baghdad. It also claimed the life of the commander of the second army regiment of the first army division in Anbar province, a military source told Al Jazeera.
The attack came soon after up to 80 US military advisers had arrived in Iraq's province of Anbar Saturday to train Iraqi forces and volunteers from Kurdish forces fighting ISIL militants on the ground. Anbar is a volatile western Iraqi province, which was recently seized by the Islamic State.
The attack is the latest in a series of ISIL assaults over the last two weeks, marking a dramatic upsurge in violence in the region.
