Putin to Discuss International Energy Issues With Gazprom CEO Monday
22:46 GMT 14.06.2015 (Updated: 00:55 GMT 15.06.2015) Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with CEO of Russian energy giant Gazprom Alexei Miller Monday to discuss issues of international cooperation in the sphere of gas, including the outcome of the recent talks between the Russian leader and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Talks between Putin and Erdogan took place Saturday in the Azerbaijan capital of Baku. According to Peskov, the two leaders discussed major energy projects, including the Turkish Stream gas pipeline project.
The Turkish Stream is a proposed pipeline from Russia to Turkey across the Black Sea with a planned annual capacity of 63 billion cubic meters of gas. It is expected to become operational in December 2016.
"The President will hear the report by head of Gazprom Miller on various issues, including the international ones. Expert level contacts have been planned as a result of [Putin’s] meeting with Erdogan. So Putin will hear Miller on the outcomes of these contacts."
It is a substitute for the South Stream pipeline project, which Moscow cancelled in December 2014, citing an "unconstructive" stance of the European Union.
