The US national police officers’ union demands that CNN anchor Fredericka Whitfield apologize for suggesting that the gunman who attacked a police station in Dallas, Texas was brave.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US national police officers’ union demands that CNN anchor Fredericka Whitfield apologize for suggesting that the gunman who attacked a police station in Dallas, Texas was brave, US Fraternal Order of Police President Chuck Canterbury stated in a letter to CNN Senior Vice President Andrew Morse.

“I am writing on behalf of the [US] Fraternal Order of Police to seek an apology from Fredericka Whitfield, one of your on-air personalities who mistakenly described the actions of a would-be cop-killer as ‘courageous and brave,’” Canterbury said on Monday.

On Sunday, Whitfield said during a newscast that she “misspoke” when describing the gunman who opened fire on a Dallas police station on Saturday as brave.

Canterbury explained the police union wants more than a simple clarification and they will not move on until they hear a full apology.

Law enforcement officers are constantly at risk of attack in the current social climate, Canterbury argued, and Whitfield’s comments have contributed to that risk.

On Saturday, a gunman opened fire on a police department in Dallas, Texas. He was killed by a police sniper after an hours-long standoff.
