MOSCOW (Sputnik), Svetlana Alexandrova – Poland does not need NATO weapons on its territory because it is not threatened by Russia, Janusz Korwin-Mikke, a member of the EU parliament from Poland, told Sputnik on Tuesday.
Earlier this month, US media reported that the Pentagon was considering placing heavy weaponry in Baltic and Eastern European countries.
"I don’t feel myself in danger or threatened by Russia or anyone and don’t see a necessity to have NATO military equipment stored in my country," Korwin-Mikke said.
NATO has been building a military presence near Russian borders following Crimea's reunification with the country following a March 2014 referendum. The bloc, a military alliance with no political legislative authority, has accused Moscow of illegally annexing the peninsula and providing military support to eastern Ukraine militias currently in conflict with Kiev.
Moscow has repeatedly denied the NATO accusations, and expressed concern over the bloc’s expansion and increased military presence near Russian borders.
