Obama to Deliver Remarks on Fatal Charleston Shooting

US President Barack Obama will deliver a statement on the fatal Charleston, South Carolina shooting later on Thursday, the White House announced ahead the speech.

Charleston Shooting Suspect Captured in North Carolina
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Wednesday evening, nine people were killed at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, after what police described as a white 21-year-old male suspect opened fire in the church.

“At 11:45am ET, President Obama will deliver a statement from the Briefing Room on the shooting in South Carolina,” the White House said in a statement on Thursday.

Local authorities have identified the suspect as Dylann Roof. An active manhunt is underway.

The US Department of Justice has launched a hate crime probe into the shooting.
