MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Participants of discussions at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) agreed that the United Nations and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) should take lead in a fair collective Internet regulation, Russian Foreign Ministry's Human Rights Ombudsman Konstantin Dolgov said on Friday.
“A leading role [in the internet regulation] should be played by the United Nations and the ITU,” Dolgov wrote on Twitter. The discussion participants also pointed out that the United States should not be allowed to violate human rights in this sphere, Dolgov added.
Despite criticism, Obama argued that the law would protect civil liberties, provide additional transparency measures and make US citizens more confident in national security programs.
