MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Currently only 52 percent, or the lowest share of the US public since 1993, express "a great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in police, according to a Friday Gallup article based on a recent poll.
"Overall, 25% of Americans say they have a great deal of confidence in the police, 27% quite a lot… Americans' confidence in the police was last at 52% in 1993," Gallup said on its website.
In recent months, police forces in the United States have been strongly criticized for excessive use of force, particularly in the wake of mass protests that came in response to a series of killings of unarmed black men by white police officers.
In February, an ICM poll conducted exclusively for Sputnik revealed that only 46 percent of US residents consider police to be the main factor maintaining their security.
