WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A US citizen will serve more than seven years in prison for his role in a 2009 terrorist attack on Pakistan’s intelligence agency headquarters, the US Justice Department said in a press release.

“Reaz Qadir Khan, 51, a naturalized US Citizen living in Portland, Oregon, was sentenced today to 87 months… in connection with the May 27, 2009 suicide bomb attack at Pakistan’s intelligence service (ISI) headquarters,” the release, issued on Friday, said.

The attack on the ISI office in Lahore, Pakistan killed approximately 30 people and injured some 300 more, the release explained.

Khan admitted to helping deliver approximately $2,450 to Maldivian Ali Jaleel, one of the suicide bombers responsible for the attack, according to the release.

Khan also admitted to hindering the apprehension of Jaleel’s wives and others who may have helped in the assault on the ISI head office.

Despite Pakistan being the victim of terrorist attacks, US lawmakers have repeatedly accused Islamabad of supporting violent extremist groups.

In February, 2015, senior members of the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee called for imposing sanctions on Pakistan for maintaining relations with US-designated terrorist groups.
