Best Russian Hardware on Display: ARMY-2015 International Forum

More than 7,000 pieces of weapons and military equipment were presented at the ARMY-2015 international military and technical forum outside Moscow.

More than 100 pieces of military hardware were involved in live demonstrations aimed to show off the unique capabilities of Russian-made weapons.

Foreign delegations and representatives of the Russian defense industry attended the event. On the third day, it was open to public attendance.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev made a visit on the last day of the forum. He said that under the import-substitution program Russia will be able to develop and produce those pieces of military equipment which previously were bought from other countries, including Ukraine.

During the official closing ceremony, Prime Minister Medvedev said events like the ARMY-2015 forum "bolster country’s economic potential" and give an idea of the image of the future armed forces.

A demonstration of amphibious river-crossing equipment of the Engineer Force and amphibian vehicles of the Ground Forces was held at the Komsomolksoe Lake. The public also had a chance to see the capabilities of Russian Navy’s hardware, including the Taifun robotic motorboat equipped with a drone.

More than 70 countries were represented by their delegation at the forum. A total of 800 defense companies displayed their products in the pavilions.

Over 80 briefings, round-tables and conferences were held during the ARMY-2015 forum. The agenda included a wide range of topics, including plans of military and technical cooperation and scientific research and innovations.

A number of innovations in the Russian Armed Forces were announced during the forum. For instance, the Armed Forces plan to switch totally from foreign to domestic-produced fuel by 2030.

The business and scientific part of the forum involved 55 cities and 12 countries.

The dynamic and maneuvering capabilities of the displayed vehicles and tanks were demonstrated at the special "tank biathlon" track at the Alabino military range, including speed sections and 11 various obstacles and barriers.

More than 150 static and moving targets were deployed at the Alabino range to show off the firing capabilities of Russian tanks. The demonstration involved T-90 and T-72B3 tanks, BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, BTR-82AM armored personnel carriers, and the new BTR-MD Rakushka armored personnel carrier designed for the airborne forces.

The Russian Air Force presented 19 innovation projects. Visitors of the forum could see a system for increasing jamming resistance, laser guidance systems for high-accuracy weapons, and a versatile mobile detector for radio surveillance.

The event attracted much attention both from industry representatives and ordinary people of all ages, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

The live demonstration at the forum involved military aircraft as well. The new Yak-130, Su-30, Su-34 and Su-35 jets and the Ansat-U, Ka-226, Mi-8AMTSh Terminator, Mi-28N Night Hunter, Mi-35M and Ka-52 Alligator took part in the demonstration. The cutting-edge Russian fifth-generation jet fighter PAK FA T-50 also flew in the sky over Kubinka airfield.
