MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Calais has caught worldwide attention because thousands of undocumented migrants arrive at the port, primarily from Eritrea, Albania, Afghanistan, Sudan, Egypt and Syria, and find themselves living in camps in poor and dangerous conditions, seeking to enter the United Kingdom.

"There are large numbers of illegal migrants in and around Calais, who may seek to enter the UK illegally. Although local police patrols have been reinforced, you should keep vehicle doors locked in slow moving traffic and secure your vehicle when it is left unattended," the Foreign Office's statement read.

Earlier in the day, media reported that France had jailed some 100 Britons over the past year for attempting to smuggle migrants via the French port city of Calais to the United Kingdom.
