According to the stuff.co.nz news website, the protesters climbed on to the roof of the parliament building earlier this morning, and were charged which trespassing upon descending.
The protesters put up a large banner saying "Cut Pollution? Create Jobs? Yeah, nah," according to the local media.
The demonstrators also set up eight solar panels on the parliament’s roof.
"The Government has done nothing in its seven years to tackle climate change. It's a massive missed opportunity," chief policy adviser for Greenpeace New Zealand Nathan Argent told the local ONE News broadcaster.
David Stevenson, general manager of New Zealand's Parliamentary Service, has commissioned an assessment of security procedures following the incident, according to the news website.
Greenpeace's New Zealand-based branch is critical of Prime Minister John Key for not taking action to combat climate change. According to the organization, the government's inaction on the issue has cost the nation $36 billion.
