BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – Eurozone finance ministers have arrived to the capital of Belgium in a new attempt to agree on financial aid package for Greece before the June 30 deadline of the current bailout program expires.
Until Tuesday, Athens has to make a $1.7-billion debt payment to the International Monetary Fund.
“The commission had always the same idea that the place of Greece is in the eurozone. We are working on that with also the idea that the Greek economy needs to be reformed,” Moscovici said as he arrived for the emergency Eurogroup meeting in Brussels.
Earlier this month, the Bank of Greece said in a report that failure to reach an agreement on the debt issue would lead Greece to a default, possibly triggering the country’s exit from the Eurozone and the European Union.
