The fire started on the terrace of the tower and was promptly contained, NBC TV said, citing the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).
There were no reports on the victims of the blaze.
The TV channel specified that the name of the building is The Avery, not the Trump Tower as it was initially referred to. Meanwhile, an apartment complex adjacent to the real estate is known as the Trump Place that caused a mistake.
The Avery, which is located on Riverside Boulevard and 65th street, was built in 2007 and is a 32-story luxury condominium.
