MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The quake was registered after 1:00 GMT on Sunday. The epicenter of the earthquake was in 23 kilometers (14 miles) north of the Indian city of Basugaon in Assam.
Tremors were also felt in neighboring Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal.
There were no immediate reports on the victims of the quake.
According to the Richter scale, earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.0-5.9 are considered to be moderate, however, they can lead to casualties and cause damage to buildings and infrastructure.
