MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The ceremony drew mourners from as far as Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, according to British iTV channel.
Coffins of the 27 victims were covered with Kuwaiti flags, and women threw flower petals on them to show respect. The channel cited people as saying that those who had perished in the recent terror attack were martyrs as they died while Muslims were in the second week of the holy month of Ramadan.
Kuwait was shocked by the first terrorist attack on its soil in over two decades on Friday when a suicide bomber blew himself up at a Shiite mosque in the Sawaber district of Kuwait City, killing at least 27 people and injuring 227 others.
The Islamic State, which denounces Shiites as heretics and non-Muslims, was reported to have claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.
