On the occasion of the Youth Day, which is annually celebrated in Ukraine on last Sunday in June, Petro Poroshenko said that it was the Ukrainian youth who had formed ‘the backbone’ of the volunteer battalions and had been the driving force of revolutionary changes in the country since the 1990s.
Poroshenko stressed that young people should "think about how to build Ukraine tomorrow" and called on them "to build a new European state."
The country’s last revolution that had started with protests on the Maidan Square resulted in a coup d'etat and has led to a severe devastation of the country. After Kiev had started a military operation in the country's southeast in April 2014, the civil protests turned into a full-fledged armed conflict which claimed lives of thousands of people and has not been resolved up to the present day.
