“Obama’s call to isolate Russia is apparently not gaining traction, just like his pet projects of the Trans-Atlantic and Trans-Pacific Partnership Treaties,” Sergei Naryshkin wrote in the official Rossiiskaya Gazeta newspaper.
According to the State Duma speaker, even though the EU has once again extended the anti-Russian sanctions, and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe continues its discrimination against Russian MEPs, opposition to the EU’s sanctions policy towards Russia is mounting in many EU countries.
“The reason for this is obvious: the Europeans are gaining nothing from these harmful sanctions,” Naryshkin said, adding that the Western governments were finding themselves increasingly hard put proving the necessity of a confrontation with Russia.
