MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Primakov died in Moscow on Friday at the age of 85 years. In his lifetime, he served in many government positions, including as Russia’s prime minister, foreign minister and intelligence chief.
He was picked to head the Russian government during the turbulent years of 1998 and 1999, at times when a global financial crisis reached a high point. He was later credited with restoring political and financial stability in the country.
Mikhail Gorbachev, the 84-year-old former Soviet statesman and USSR’s last leader, also attended the ceremony.
