MOSCOW, June 29 (Sputnik) — Following an official request issued to Moscow by Kiev, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev set a discounted price for gas for Ukraine at $40 per 1,000 cubic meters. Russian natural gas will now cost Ukraine $247.17 per 1,000 cubic meters, starting from July 1.
"The addendum determines the conditions and schedule for deliveries of Russian gas to Ukraine in the third quarter of 2015," Gazprom said in a statement.
With the second quarter $100-discount expiring on Tuesday, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak confirmed earlier in the day that the two countries, along with the European Union, will convene trilateral gas talks in Vienna on that day.
Last week, President Vladimir Putin said Russia can no longer provide similarly generous gas discounts to Ukraine due to the falling global oil prices.
