The "Selfie With Daughter" campaign became part of a larger campaign known as "Bachao Beti Padhao" (translated to English as "Help your daughter by providing her education") launched by Modi earlier this year. The main goal of Modi's campaign is to combat discrimination based on sex. In some part of the country the tradition of femicide is practiced, whereby female fetuses are killed pre-emptively, as girls are seen as a "burden" that requires more resources.
