Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again showed that he is the king of social media by launching a large scale campaign called “Selfie With Daughter”.

The Prime Minister made a public appeal during a radio show asking everyone to support his idea by taking pictures with their daughters.

People from all around the world supported the idea. During the first day more than 59,000 people tweeted pictures with their daughters. Currently, the numbers are well over the hundreds of thousands. The campaign was supported by many celebrities, famous athletes, statesmen and leaders of political parties.

The campaign gained so much popularity that someone posted pictures of famous Indian people who are no longer alive.

The "Selfie With Daughter" campaign became part of a larger campaign known as "Bachao Beti Padhao" (translated to English as "Help your daughter by providing her education") launched by Modi earlier this year. The main goal of Modi's campaign is to combat discrimination based on  sex. In some part of the country the tradition of femicide is practiced, whereby female fetuses are killed pre-emptively, as girls are seen as a "burden" that requires more resources.
