WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The human rights situation is still inadequate, the release explained, but the United States has seen some meaningful progress on human rights reforms.
“The [US President Barack Obama] Administration has decided to lift the holds on security assistance to the Bahrain Defense Force and National Guard that were implemented following Bahrain’s crackdown on demonstrations in 2011,” the release read on Monday.
Since 2011, the Sunni regime in Bahrain has been locked in a struggle with an opposition movement led primarily by Shiites, who constitute a majority of the country’s population.
