Another death from the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome was registered in South Korea.

TOKYO (Sputnik) — Another death from the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) was registered in South Korea, the country’s Ministry of Health and Welfare confirmed Tuesday.

So far, 33 people have died from the virus in South Korea; the number of MERS cases throughout the country now stands at 182, according to the ministry. About 2,600 people remain in quarantine.

However, the ministry added that no new cases of the MERS outbreak, started in the country in May, had been identified for the last three days.

The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome is a viral respiratory disease caused by the MERS-coronavirus. The infection was first reported in 2012 in Saudi Arabia and subsequently spread to other countries.

The virus is transmitted from camels to people, with limited human-to-human transmission, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The infection causes such symptoms as fever, cough and shortness of breath.

There is currently no vaccine for MERS.
