MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Some 35 people were wounded following an explosion of a car bomb near a military hospital in the capital of Yemen, Sanaa, local media reported on Tuesday.
According to the local Saba news agency, predominantly women and children were injured in the explosion on Monday.
Earlier in the day, media reported that the Islamic State jihadist group (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack.
The attack is the latest in the chain of similar incidents that have taken place in Sanaa this month.
On June 20, two people were killed and ten injured in a car bomb blast near a mosque, that was used by Yemeni Houthi rebels.
ISIL is a Sunni militant group in control of vast territories in Iraq and Syria. A number of ISIL cells are currently operate in Saudi Arabia, Libya, Yemen and other territories across the Middle East and North Africa.
Since early 2015, Yemen has been seeing violence sparked by fighting between government forces and Houthi militants.
The Houthis, a Shia insurgent group, have seized control of a significant part of Yemen, including Sanaa, and forced President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi to flee the country.
In late March, the displaced leader asked a coalition of Arab states for military assistance. Following the request, a Saudi Arabia-led coalition launched airstrikes on Houthi positions.
