VIENNA (Sputnik), Daria Chernyshova — German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier told Sputnik on Tuesday that he hopes to reach a deal with Iran on its disputed nuclear program.
"That is the reason to be here," he told Sputnik, noting that there is hope of reaching a deal in Vienna.
Steinmeier is part of the P5+1 negotiating team, along with his counterparts from Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and China, attempting to hammer out the final deal to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanctions relief.
The group extended their June 30 deadline to July 7, to iron out the remaining sticking points, said to be mechanisms to monitor Iran's compliance with the agreement and the timing for the gradual easing of the sanctions.
On Tuesday, a series of bilateral meetings in various formations were held between US, Russian, German and Iranian diplomats in the hope clinching a comprehensive deal.
