NEW YORK (Sputnik) — Law enforcement officers are currently searching for a suspect who robbed a bank and fled the scene in a wheelchair, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) told Sputnik on Tuesday.
“The suspect entered Santander Bank… and passed a note to the teller demanding cash,” the NYPD said. “The suspect removed $1,212 in cash and fled westbound on Broadway in a wheelchair.”
The incident took place on June 29, 2015 in the early afternoon in New York’s borough of Astoria.
Nearby residents told local media that they were stunned.
“It’s a little surprising,” one resident told WABC-TV. “I thought it was a joke at first until I overhears all the police officers coming in, I realized it was something serious.”
The NYPD noted that no injuries were reported during the robbery.
