BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – A special unit of the European Police Office’s [Europol] to counter propaganda of radical Islam and terrorism began work on Wednesday, EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator Gilles de Kerchove said.
"This unit will inform Internet companies of illegal content to expand counter-propaganda," de Kerchove told RIA Novosti.
According to the coordinator, the initiative will help tackle religious radicalization and the recruitment of Europeans by terrorist organizations.
The Islamic State, a militant group that controls large territories in Syria and Iraq, has specifically targeted young people by using social networking websites to recruit thousands of foreign fighters.
