VIENNA (Sputnik) – Political directors of the P5+1 group are holding a coordination meeting in Vienna within the framework of the ongoing talks on the Iranian nuclear program, a Russian delegation source told journalists on Thursday.

"The coordination meeting starts at 19:30 [local time, 17:30 GMT]," the source said.

Envoys from Iran will not take part in the meeting.

The UN Security Council imposed sanctions on Iran over fears it was trying to develop a nuclear weapon under the guise of a civilian nuclear program.

The P5+1 group, comprising Russia, the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom and Germany, have been trying to work out a deal with Iran, ensuring the safe nature of Tehran’s nuclear program and lifting the anti-Iran sanctions.

The June 30 deadline for reaching the deal was extended for another week. Several top diplomats, including France’s Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, have left the talks, but will return later.

The pace of sanctions relief is among the key remaining issues to be ironed out between the P5+1 group and Iran this week. Monitoring mechanisms ensuring Tehran's compliance with the agreement is another issue at the center of ongoing negotiations.
